The effect of preoperative ureteral stenting in flexible ureteroscopy for renal calculi: report of 120 cases

Yu Yang, Ming Chen

Objective: To analyse clinical efficacy of preoperative ureteral stenting in the treatment of renal calculi treated with flexible ureteroscope.

Methods: A total of 120 patients with renal calculi enrolled in our hospital from April 2016 to April 2017 were selected as the objects. All of them were treated with flexible ureteroscopy and laser lithotripsy and received a double-J sent placement before operation. The successful rate of sheath placement, rate of complications and stone-free rate were analysed.

Results: During the stent indwelling period, 26.67% (32/120) patients had urinary irritation symptoms. The successful rate of sheath placement at the first time was 98.33% (118/120) and the incidence of complications which need therapeutic interventions was 3.33% (4/120). The postoperative stone-free rate after 1 month was 93.33% (112/120). The incidence of chill and pyrexia was 1.67% (2/120) and the incidence of hematuria was 71.67% (86/120).

Conclusion: Double-J stent placement before operation for ureteral predilation leads to excellent curative effects and is thus worthy of clinical application.
