Air pollution is a global health emergency. Air pollution is now the world’s largest environmental risk to health, and a major cause of disease and premature death accounting for 7 million deaths around the world every year. From our first breath to our last, every individual on the planet should be able to breathe air that doesn’t impede their health and quality of life. We need a comprehensive understanding of the impact of air pollution on respiratory health and quality of life. For these reasons, GSK Consumer Healthcare launched The Clean Breathing Institute (TCBI) in 2018, a collaborative scientific initiative set up to help reduce the negative impact of air pollution on people’s health around the world. TCBI partners scientific expertise of academic, institutional and international bodies, plus medical professionals and innovators from science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) and commercial backgrounds with the aim of creating a network that works together to help reduce the effects of air pollution on people health and quality of life. The members of the TCBI Scientific Board are world- renowned professors and scientists united in the fight against the negative health effects of air pollution. The mission of TCBI is to help people to breathe better despite of air pollution and is grounded on four pillars: Education and Awareness; Scientific Research; Innovation and Partnerships, with the goal to reach over 2.5 million healthcare professionals with educational and practical tools to empower over 300 million people to breathe better by 2025.
